Gain the skills to teach English to learners here at home or abroad through the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate program. Students in this 18-credit professional certificate program offered by the Linguistics Department will gain a foundational background in the principles of linguistics and language education, along with an understanding of how to apply these principles in the classroom. These experiences culminate in an ESL teaching practicum.
Why become certified to teach English to speakers of other languages?
Not only are you supporting future language learners in achieving their personal or professional goals, you’ll also see tangible results of your work and training.
The TESOL program is designed to be completed in two semesters of full-time study. For more information, please visit the program listing in the course catalog.
Please note that this certificate program does not provide teacher certification. For information regarding our options for acquiring a teacher certification please see our Teacher Education and Certification page. .
