Designed for those who already hold a bachelor\u2019s degree in Earth science or related fields, the program combines subject-area coursework with professional education courses to meet New Jersey Department of Education requirements.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll study geology, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science while developing the teaching skills necessary to lead engaging, inquiry-based science classrooms. Field experiences and supervised student teaching provide real-world classroom practice.<\/p>\n<p>Upon completing all coursework and certification requirements, you\u2019ll be recommended for a New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS), allowing you to begin teaching Earth science in grades P\u201312. Democratic citizenship includes the ability to think critically and to play an active role in improving our society. Please review the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cssee\/portrait-of-a-teacher\/\"><span class=\"s2\">Portrait of a Teacher<\/span><\/a>. You will note that several of the standards in the Portrait focus on this important goal. For the Statement of Objectives, please write an essay of three to four double-spaced, typed pages and incorporate items 5 and 6\u00a0 from the Portrait of a Teacher to address the following questions:\n<ul>\n<li>In your life as a citizen, student, and future teacher of this society, what experiences are reflective of this standard? Additionally, what experiences in your life have conflicted with this standard?<\/li>\n<li>Envision yourself as a teacher. How would you foster a classroom climate that would promote this standard in your discipline?<\/li>\n<li>You might begin by reflecting on some of your own classroom experiences as a student.
