To create opportunities for future Red Hawks, and to recognize President Susan A. Cole\u2019s leadership in transforming Montclair State, this year\u2019s Annual Scholarship Fundraiser is a cause for celebration.<\/p>\n
Taking place Saturday, May 22, the event will honor four outstanding alumni<\/strong><\/a> who have carried their Montclair State education forward to achieve greatness in their professions and in their communities, as well as recognize President Cole, who has announced her retirement for the end of this academic year after 23 years of distinguished service. Read about President Cole\u2019s leadership<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n The evening kicks off at 6:30 pm, with hors d\u2019oeuvres and cocktails and a tented reception in front of the newly renovated College Hall. The program will take place at 8:15 pm in the outdoor Amphitheater, featuring performances by College of the Arts students, award presentations to the honorees, and a tribute to President Cole. There will be a dessert reception to close out the evening.<\/p>\n Every scholarship dollar matters for Montclair State students, with more than 70 percent of the University\u2019s students relying on some form of financial assistance to attend college.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is essentially up to me to pay for my future,\u201d says Nicole Arakaki, a Dance Education major who received a scholarship in honor of retired dance professor Lori Katterhenry. Arakaki has taken out loans to pay tuition, but without the help from the scholarship, she says, \u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019d be here right now.
