One key area identified was leadership development. WIN hosted several workshops, including “Building Your Authentic Personal Brand,” presented by Tara Chiara, certified executive leadership and career coach, which helped participants identify their personal brand and understand why it’s important for career success. Through a series of practical activities, participants defined their individuality, focused on their values and clarified their purpose with the goal of leaving the session with a compelling personal brand statement.

Tara Chiara presents a workshop for WIN.

Participants gained heightened awareness of personal image and executive presence and how that can empower you to take charge of your career momentum and stand-out while being your best self. Chiara explained that personal branding is how you package yourself and communicate your unique skills and the value you bring to a team or company. It’s a mix of how you present yourself and how others see you. Building an authentic brand and taking control of it positions you to leave a lasting impression. Your personal brand can open pathways to opportunities and boost your career velocity.

Previous leadership development workshops included “Negotiation in the Workplace – Strategies for the Career Advancement of Women,” a workshop also presented by Chiara. The program focused on negotiation as an essential skill in one’s career and in life. Chiara pointed to studies that have suggested that men are promoted based on their perceived potential while women are promoted after proving they can do it. Chiara shared insights on how to negotiate effectively (and authentically) and to break the cycle of the ‘potential vs. performance’ roadblock.

Workshops cover topics selected by WIN members.

In an online session, executive career coach Rob Hellmann shared tips on how to elevate skills, perfect networking abilities and grow a professional network. Some of the areas addressed included identifying a network, creating a pitch, identifying crucial connections, finding the “hidden job market” and best practices using LinkedIn.

Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance was another key area identified in WIN roundtables. To address the topic, WIN sponsored an online program called NINJATIME™, featuring WIN member Tezeta “Tez” Roro ‘06. Roro shared valuable insights on maximizing daily productivity and pursuing multiple passions without feeling overwhelmed. During the event, participants delved into effective strategies for automating tasks and reducing mental load, gaining valuable tools to strike a harmonious work-life balance. Tez’s guidance provided a fresh perspective to approach each day and hour, offering attendees transformative insights for navigating the complexities of a busy life.

Join WIN Today!

WIN is eager to build and grow a strong network of women committed to supporting Montclair and supporting student success through mentoring and providing career resources.
