Cali School of Music Alumna to Perform at Lincoln Center

Music Performance alumna Mia Pafumi will perform in the The Opera Orchestra of New York’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s Parisina D’esteon Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City. Pafumi, a soprano, will perform in the role of Imelda, alongside the lead soprano Angela Meade, and an international cast of young artists including American tenor Aaron Blake in the role of Ugo, Chinese baritone Yunpeng Wang in the role of Duke Azzo, and Serbian bass Sava Vemić in the role of Ernesto. The performance will be conducted by the company’s Founder & Music Director Laureate Eve Queler.

Mia Pafumicompleted her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance in May of 2013, and her roles in vlog’s operas includeIl Re Pastore, Le Nozze di Figaro, ղԻá, andDer Rosenkavalier. She performed in Montclair State’s 2012 opera workshop of Lorca’sBodas de Sangreunder the direction of Jeffery Gall, and starred the lead role in Montclair State’s Main Stage Production of Francis Poulenc’sDialogues of the Carmelites. Pafumi spent her spring semester of 2012 studying abroad at the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” di Musica di Milano in Italy, and has performed in the 2010 Rome Festival Orchestra Young Artist Program. In 2014, Pafumi placed second in the Violetta DuPont International Vocal Competition and received a grant from the Giulio Gari Foundation’s 2014 International Vocal Competition. She then performed throughout the summer with Josh Greene and Carol Yahr’s New York Summer Opera. Pafumi is currently pursuing a Master of Music graduate degree at the School of Music at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Parisina d’Esteis an opera, atragedialirica, in three acts by Gaetano Donizetti. The opera was first performed by The Opera Orchestra of New York in 1974 and since its establishment under the direction of Eve Queler in 1971, the Opera Orchestra is dedicated in presenting rarely-heard operas and providing the public with an opportunity to hear them performed in major concert venues.
