DuMont Broadcaster of the Year Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday November 13, 2015\u00a0NBC 4 Chief Meteorologist Janice Huff\u00a0will visit Montclair State to receive the Allen B. DuMont Broadcaster of the Year Award and participate in the School of Communication and Media Colloquium Series. Huff will discuss her distinguished career in media and the emerging challenges on the job.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Huff will be interviewed by Associate Professor of Television and Media Professor Marc Rosenweig for a special edition of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/arts\/school-of-communication-and-media\/productions\/carpe-diem\/\">Carpe Diem<\/a>,<\/em> the School&#8217;s award-winning weekly news magazine program.<\/p>\n<p>As one of New York\u2019s most recognized forecasters, Huff joined NBC 4 \u00a0New York in January 1995 and has held a variety of positions at the network. In 2011,\u00a0Huff received the McDonald\u2019s \u201c2011 Black Media Legends\u201d award, and was honored by McDonald\u2019s as one of 24 esteemed \u2018Black Media Legends\u2019. Huff is also host of <em>Wednesday&#8217;s Child<\/em>, a weekly adoption feature and is a passionate advocate for children and community-related issues, and has received numerous accolades for her work on the series.\u00a0 Huff is a member of the National Weather Association, The American Meteorological Society, the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Friars Club.<\/p>\n<p>Each year Montclair State presents the DuMont Award to an individual who has distinguished him\/herself in the field of radio or television broadcasting.\u00a0 This award, first presented in 1982, has grown steadily in prestige.\u00a0 WNBC-TV&#8217;s Bruce Beck was a recent honoree. The award is in recognition of Allen B. DuMont, early television inventor and programmer.\u00a0 Over the years, some of the other honorees include former Senator Bill Bradley,\u00a0 Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville, WCBS-TV anchor Kristine Johnson, CBS Sports announcer Ian Eagle, WCBS Radio chopper 880 reporter Tom Kaminski, WABC-TV anchor\/reporter Joe Torres, WWOR-TV anchor Brenda Blackmon and WABC-TV Reporter N.J.
