{"id":207786,"date":"2024-03-28T10:35:16","date_gmt":"2024-03-28T14:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/biology\/?p=207786"},"modified":"2024-05-17T13:12:39","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T17:12:39","slug":"hosa-takes-home-trophy-at-state-leadership-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/biology\/2024\/03\/28\/hosa-takes-home-trophy-at-state-leadership-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Montclair HOSA Takes Home Trophy at State Leadership Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday, March 24th, the annual <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/njhosa.org\/events\/slc\/\" target=\"_blank\">NJ Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference<\/a> took place in the Burlington County Institute of Technology in Westampton NJ. ÌÇÐÄvlog\u2019s HOSA chapter had four members competing against other collegiate-level chapters, including Princeton, Rutgers, and NJIT HOSA.<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-row\"><div class=\"prpl-column one-third\">\n<figure class=\"responsive-image-holder wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mlt-responsive-image\" data-original-image=\"\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/03\/hosa-trophy.jpg\" src=\"\/responsive-media\/cache\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2024\/03\/hosa-trophy.jpg.0.1x.generic.jpg\" alt=\"NJ HOSA Conference trophy\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div><div class=\"prpl-column two-thirds\">\n<p>Molecular Biology majors Nour Shalash and Mehjabin Begum placed 1st in Medical Assisting and 3rd in Medical Terminology, respectively. Medical Humanities major Elijah Austin placed 2nd in Medical Spelling. Placing in the top three of their categories, three members qualified to move on to the International Leadership Conference, which will be held in Houston Texas this June.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the winners, ÌÇÐÄvlog HOSA was awarded the first place trophy for the Standards of Excellence award (Postsecondary Division). This award recognizes HOSA chapters that are committed to fulfilling the HOSA mission of promoting career opportunities in healthcare and medicine.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<blockquote><p>This was our first year attending SLC, and I could not have been more proud of our chapter. It was a gratifying moment to see our school\u2019s name on the winning boards alongside other NJ colleges.
