  {"id":2260,"date":"2023-03-23T09:19:45","date_gmt":"2023-03-23T13:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/?p=2260"},"modified":"2023-03-23T11:12:50","modified_gmt":"2023-03-23T15:12:50","slug":"doctor-rating-websites-lack-convictions-and-medical-malpractice-claims-against-some-physicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/business\/2023\/03\/23\/doctor-rating-websites-lack-convictions-and-medical-malpractice-claims-against-some-physicians\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor-Rating Websites Lack Convictions and Medical Malpractice Claims Against Some Physicians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feliciano School of Business professor, Dr. Stanislav Mamonov from the Department of Information Management and Business Analytics, was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about a study he did on opioid-related whistleblowing in physician-rating websites.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Physician-rating websites focus primarily on patient experiences; it can be very challenging to find patients\u2019 medical outcomes information, including medical malpractice and disciplinary actions on physicians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Mamonov\u2019s research \u201cused text mining to see to explore linguistic cues in reviews of doctors who had been charged with overprescribing opioids.\u201d He found that, at least in some cases, physician-rating sites could help locate problematic practices, indicating that patient reviews that often include patient complaints, could be a useful tool for regulators.<\/p>\n<p>This research laid the foundation for examining the value of customer feedback in other contexts. Dr. Mamonov says \u2013 \u201cI have several follow up projects that examine the value of customer voice in medical infoveillance.
