{"id":795,"date":"2026-01-21T20:33:05","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T20:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/canvas\/?p=795"},"modified":"2026-01-21T21:02:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T21:02:09","slug":"new-in-canvas-igniteai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/canvas\/2026\/01\/21\/new-in-canvas-igniteai\/","title":{"rendered":"New in Canvas:\u00a0IgniteAI"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">IgniteAI<\/span>\u00a0Search:\u00a0<\/strong>an\u00a0<span class=\"il\">AI<\/span>-enhanced course search in Canvas that lets students and instructors find content using natural, \u201cmeaning-based\u201d queries, not just exact keywords.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">Ignite<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"il\">AI<\/span>\u00a0Translations (for Discussions and Announcements):<\/strong>\u00a0allows faculty and students to translate Canvas text in place, supporting multilingual participation without leaving Canvas.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">IgniteAI<\/span>\u00a0Translations (for Canvas Inbox):<\/strong>\u00a0translates private Canvas Inbox messages in place, available for both faculty and students.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">IgniteAI<\/span>\u00a0Summaries for Discussions:<\/strong>\u00a0lets an instructor generate a quick\u00a0<span class=\"il\">AI<\/span>-written recap of a discussion thread right inside Canvas.<\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">IgniteAI<\/span>\u00a0Insights for Discussions:<\/strong>\u00a0uses\u00a0<span class=\"il\">AI<\/span>\u00a0to scan individual student replies and flag how relevant and substantive they are compared to the original prompt.<br \/>\n<em>Feature Preview (free through 6\/30\/2026 and may incur additional cost in the future)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong><span class=\"il\">IgniteAI<\/span>\u00a0Generator for Rubrics:<\/strong>\u00a0within an Assignment, instructors can generate a draft rubric based on the assignment description, then edit and refine it before publishing.\u00a0<strong>Enhanced Rubrics<\/strong>\u00a0must be enabled to use this feature.<br \/>\n<em>Feature Preview (free through 6\/30\/2026 and may incur additional cost in the future)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These\u00a0<span class=\"il\">AI<\/span>\u00a0features are made available in all Canvas courses starting Spring 2026. Faculty have the option to enable or disable these features in their own courses via Settings &gt; Feature Options.
