That is not normal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot as many people are home at 1 o&#8217;clock on an average day to watch those briefings,\u201d she said. \u201cSo they end up getting digested by the media and then shared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Governor Murphy has discussed \u201ctransitioning into an endemic\u201d many times recently. Dr. Silvera said the term is being misused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s sort of a little pet peeve of mine because people are now throwing around the term,\u201d she added. \u201cMost people have no idea what that term means.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An endemic means that rates are static, neither rising nor falling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s a baseline level; we expect a certain number of cases,\u201d she said. \u201cThat does not mean safe, it does not mean that it is not widespread, and it certainly doesn&#8217;t mean that it isn&#8217;t deadly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Silvera added that the numbers \u201ccertainly aren\u2019t static.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re still seeing some pretty dramatic surges and then a falling of case rates, where we just came off of omicron with a huge surge and those case rates are now still dropping,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is not endemic yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<span class=\"prpl-button\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbgo.org\/news\/2022-03-04\/this-is-more-of-a-political-signal-new-jerseys-last-covid-briefing-is-set\">Read the full story<\/a><\/span>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Stephanie Silvera, Professor in the Public Health Department, recently spoke with WBGO about the end of Governor Murphy&#8217;s COVID briefings.
