Silvera also commented on the monkeypox outbreak for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/healthfit\/2022\/08\/monkeypox-cases-reported-in-3-more-nj-counties-state-adds-vaccination-sites.html\">NJ.com<\/a> and Long Island\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsday.com\/news\/health\/coronavirus\/new-cdc-guidelines-covid-19-i58d3ea2\">Newsday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think college campuses need to be very aware of the possibility\u201d of monkeypox spreading into their student populations, Dr. Silvera said. \u201cIt would be foolish to think that it won&#8217;t happen on these college campuses where we know that infectious diseases have the opportunity to spread quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome universities had isolation housing for COVID, but most of those have sort of relinquished that inventory so that we can have more students living on campus, and so making sure we have the space for those students to stay safe is going to be very important,\u201d Dr. Silvera said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Stephanie Silvera, Professor in the Public Health Department, was interviewed by ABC News about how colleges should prepare for the potential spread of monkeypox on campuses.
