Dr. Hannon and Co-Authors Receive 2020 Outstanding Counselor Education and Supervision Article Award by the ACES Awards Committee

, Associate Professor in the , and co-authors recently received the 2020 Outstanding Counselor Education and Supervision Article Award by the (ACES) Award Committee. Their article is entitled, “Contributing factors to earning tenure among Black male counselor educators.”
Two alumni from the doctoral Counseling program were co-authors: Dr. Tyce Nadrich and Dr. Alfonso Ferguson. is an Assistant Professor in Social Services at Molloy College and Dr. Ferguson is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Centenary University. In addition to their faculty roles, both Dr. Nadrich and Dr. Ferguson maintain private counseling practices in New York.
The other co-authors include , Assistant Professor in the Johns Hopkins School of Education; , Assistant Professor of Professional Counseling at Monmouth University; and , Counseling Professor at Shippensburg University.
Dr. Hannon’s experiences as a counseling professional stretch 20 years and includes current work as a clinical mental health counselor and past experience as a school counselor and student affairs professional. His research primarily focuses on Black men’s wellness, with a focus on the value they derive from their roles as fathers, community leaders, clients, and counselor educators.
All of the authors are or have been active and leading in the profession. Dr. Nadrich and Dr. Ferguson have been selected as Emerging Leaders by the North Atlantic Region of the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision. Additionally, Dr. Ferguson is a former National Board of Certified Counselors Doctoral Minority Fellow. Dr. Bonner is the recently appointed/current chair of the counseling program at Johns Hopkins University (chosen to lead their program through the re-accreditation process), and Dr. Ford is the current New Jersey Counseling Association president. Dr. Vereen is the current editor of the Journal of Humanistic Counseling, a past president of the Association for Humanistic Counseling, and former secretary of the Association of Counselor Education and Supervision.
