This 10th Conference focuses on fostering conversations about works-in-progress to develop our collective capacity to critically self-reflect, collaboratively theorize, and courageously build.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/~picowerb\">Dr. Bree Picower<\/a>, Associate Professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/teaching-and-learning\">Teaching and Learning Department<\/a>, will be presenting on a panel entitled \u201cNew Books to Intervene in White Supremacy and Teaching. She will be sharing from my soon to be released book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/reading-writing-and-racism-bree-picower\/1137365080?ean=9780807033708\">Reading, Writing, and Racism: Disrupting Whiteness in Teacher Education and the Classroom<\/a><\/em>. The book\u00a0examines how curriculum choices can perpetuate White supremacy, and suggests strategies for how schools and teacher education programs can disrupt and transform racism in education.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Picower was awarded the Scholar Activist of 2013 by the Critical Educators for Social Justice SIG of the American Educational Research Association. Her co-edited book <em>Confronting Racism in Teacher Education: Counternarratives of Critical Practice<\/em> examines patterns of institutional racism by amplifying the voices of non-dominant teacher educators. Her previous book, a co-edited collection of essays called <em>What\u2019s Race Got To Do With It? How current school reform maintains racial and economic inequality<\/em> is available from Peter Lang Publishers. She is also the author of <em>Practice What You Teach: Social Justice Education in the Classroom and the Streets<\/em> which explores a developmental continuum toward teacher activism.
