For the 2014-15 academic year, the Montclair Book Faculty Advisory Committee chose <em>Scarcity<\/em>, by Sendhil Mullainathan and <span class=\"ptBrand\">Eldar Shafir<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>About The Essay Contest<\/h2>\n<p>Please read the contest requirements and guidelines below:<\/p>\n<h3>Essay Prompt<\/h3>\n<p>Examine a problem or issue in your local, social, or global community that appeared to be caused by a lack of resources, what the authors of this year&#8217;s Montclair Book have called &#8220;scarcity.&#8221; Is the root cause indeed scarcity or something else? Explain your analysis of the situation and your proposed solution, including the resources that could change the outcome. Your essay should also make specific references to passages in Scarcity that support your conclusions.<\/p>\n<h3>Requirement and Guidelines<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Length: Between 1,000-1,500 words<\/li>\n<li>Format: Double space and use a 12-point font<\/li>\n<li>Submission:\u00a0 Entries must include a separate title page with your name, essay title, and contact information: phone number, email address, and mailing address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Evaluation Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Each essay will be judged based on the extent and effectiveness with which it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Engages audience<\/li>\n<li>Communicates an argument effectively<\/li>\n<li>Uses persuasive evidence<\/li>\n<li>Exemplifies excellence in writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Eligible Contestants<\/h3>\n<p>Open to all undergraduates enrolled at ÌÇÐÄvlog during the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 semester<\/p>\n<h3>Prizes<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>One (1) winner will receive $100<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) runner ups will receive $25 each<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Submission<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Deadline: Friday, April 10, 2015<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How to Submit:<\/strong>\u00a0 Send an electronic copy to <a href=\"mailto:cwe@montclair.edu\">cwe@montclair.edu<\/a> and in the subject line enter \u201cMontclair Book Essay Contest.\u201d\u00a0 In the email message, indicate the college or school in which you enrolled, the degree for which you are a candidate, and when you expect to graduate.\u00a0 If you have not yet declared a major, please indicate that as well.
