  {"id":209556,"date":"2022-03-25T16:14:15","date_gmt":"2022-03-25T20:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/?p=209556"},"modified":"2022-03-25T16:14:15","modified_gmt":"2022-03-25T20:14:15","slug":"what-does-america-meme-students-school-their-professors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/chss\/2022\/03\/25\/what-does-america-meme-students-school-their-professors\/","title":{"rendered":"What Does America &#8220;Meme&#8221;: Students &#8216;School&#8217; Their Professors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"summary\">On April 6, the five finalists of the recent \u201cWhat Does America \u2018Meme&#8217; Contest\u201d will \u201cschool\u201d professors and the audience about the power and importance of memes in American culture today. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>This discussion features prize-winning student meme creators Gabrielle Mills, Alejandro Gili-Olivares, Francesco Amore, Julie Guevara, Veronica Lisboa in discussion with Professors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=archern\">Nicole Archer<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=tiniop\">Pablo Tinio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the participatory analytical space of this event, students will \u201cdeconstruct\u201d their work and discuss how this recently established visual language has created new forms of dialogue while often subverting traditional means of communication. They, along with ÌÇÐÄvlog faculty and staff and the public, will collectively contextualize and reflect on the disruptive communicative force played by memes in the United States today.<\/p>\n<p>The memes themselves (chosen by public vote) are featured in a Sprague Library Gallery along with student biographies and commentary:<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcommons.montclair.edu\/student_meme_contest\/\">https:\/\/digitalcommons.montclair.edu\/student_meme_contest\/<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Details<\/strong><br \/>\nDate: Wednesday, April 6th 2022<br \/>\nTime: 6:00 \u2013 7:30 p.m.<br \/>\nLocation: Feliciano School of Business, Room 101.<\/p>\n<p>Event will also be live streamed via Zoom.
