The past two years were challenging, but we are fortunate to have returned to in-person programming this semester, where we launched new initiatives!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We kicked off 2021 with \u201cItalian Americans in the World of Jazz\u201d a joint program with One Day University<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0that featured Anna Celenza of Georgetown University and John Gennari of the University of Vermont. We also awarded scholarships to outstanding Italian majors and minors at MSU for their excellence in their undergraduate studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the Fall 2021 semester, we hosted our first in-person, off-campus event in collaboration with the Montclair Literary Festival<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, featuring \u201cSopranos\u201d star and Bruce Springsteen\u2019s E. Street Band guitarist, Stevie Van Zandt<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We then celebrated Italian American Heritage Month with two exciting programs: the launch of our Coccia Lecture Series with Dean Anthony Tamburri of the Calandra Institute<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on his new book \u201cThe Columbus Affair: Imperatives for an Italian\/American Agenda\u201d and a talk with children\u2019s author, Dan Yaccarino<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in partnership with the Watchung Booksellers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on his newest book \u201cThe Longest Storm.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We ended the month with our 14th annual Teaching Italian Symposium, co-hosted with Prof.ssa Enza Antenos,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0and presented the 2021 Coccia-Inserra Award For Excellence and Innovation in the Teaching of Italian to Antonietta Gliubizzi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And\u2026 we have another exciting year just around the corner!
