  {"id":2078,"date":"2008-04-02T15:06:38","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T19:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=2078"},"modified":"2008-04-02T15:06:38","modified_gmt":"2008-04-02T19:06:38","slug":"2078_an-evening-of-opera-delights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/coccia-institute\/2008\/04\/02\/2078_an-evening-of-opera-delights\/","title":{"rendered":"An Evening of Opera Delights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the evening of February 25, 2007 The Joseph and Elda Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America sponsored for the first time at ÌÇÐÄvlog a musical and lecture program featuring Italian opera selections free to the public <strong>\u201c An Evening of Opera Delights\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>Arranged and produced by Institute Director Dr. Robert Freda, the evening performance was led by conductor maestro Fernando Raucci of Princeton New Jersey and featured performing artists from the company Opera New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>Students, faculty leaders, MSU administrators, representatives from area Italian American organizations, supporters of the Coccia Foundation and Vice Consul of Italy <\/p>\n<p>Andrea Barbaria attended. This event is one of others that are held annually as recognition of the founding of The Institute by a generous endowment provided by the Coccia Foundation. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The program consisted of an enlightening lecture by Raucci on the dynamic life and times of the world famous composed Giuseppe Verdi interspersed with selections from his internationally acclaimed opera La Traviata. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Raucci focused on the theme \u201cThe emergence of Verdi&#8217;s mature style\u201d with the following Selections performed by the artists<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Violetta: Scena <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">E strano<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\">\u2026through <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Sempre libera <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\"> <\/span>sung by.Elizabeth Claxton<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Alfredo: Scena <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Lunge da lei&#8230;diei miei bollenti <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\"> <\/span>sung by Cody Austin<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Violetta\/Germont: <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Madamigella Pura siccome <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\">.Elizabeth Claxton, William Andrew Stuckey<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Alfredo: <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Alfredo al guingervi\u2026Di provenza <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\">Cody Austin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Violetta: <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Teneste la promessa\u2026addio del passato <\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\">Elizabeth Claxton<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\">Alfredo: <\/span><em><span lang=\"IT\">Parigi o cara\u2026through Allegro: Ah non piu a un tempio<\/span><\/em><span lang=\"IT\">, Cody Austin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"IT\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Maestro Fernando Raucci has conducted professionally in the USA and internationally during his career bringing to bear his European training and culture to all his musical endeavors. He is currently Music Director of <em>Greater<\/em> <em>Princeton Youth Orchestra<\/em>, a Professor of History of Italian Opera, Rutgers University\u2019s Department of Italian and Conductor of the <em>Rutgers Sinfonia <\/em>orchestra, Rutgers University-Mason Gross School of Music. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Recently, he spent three successful years as Assistant of American Symphony Orchestra, Lincoln Center, NYC, with Mo. Leon Botstein. He was previously Music Director of <em>Opera International<\/em>, Princeton; Principal Guest Conductor, <em>Greater Trenton<\/em> <em>Symphony Orchestra<\/em>; Permanent Conductor, <em>Nicola Amati Chamber Orchestra<\/em>; Artistic Director, <em>Armonie Notturne<\/em>, Isernia, Italy; and Assistant to Mo. Maurizio Barbacini, Opera Company of Philadelphia for <em>Don Carlo<\/em>. He has conducted orchestras in Poland, Russia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, and Bulgaria. In summer, 2005, Raucci was an invited participant at the renowned Spoleto Festival in Italy. More recently, he has assisted Maestro Daniele Gatti with several orchestras.<\/p>\n<p>Raucci will be conducting the full opera La Traviata at McCarter Theater in Princeton with Opera New Jersey this summer July, 11, 2008.<\/p>\n<p> <em>The Star Ledger <\/em>proclaimed Opera New Jersey\u2019s production of Verdi\u2019s Rigoletto heard earlier this year in Princeton, New Brunswick and Morristown to be both \u201cpassionate\u201d and \u201ccharming.\u201d On the heels of that enormous success, Opera New Jersey is continuing its mission of bringing high quality opera performances and exceptional educational offerings throughout the state through such programs as you are witnessing today. In response to last season\u2019s sold out run, Opera New Jersey has added additional performances to meet the demand for first-rate opera right here in New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p> Each of the artists Tenor, Cody Austin Soprano, Elizabeth Claxton Baritone, William Andrew Stuckey\u2019s Pianist, Brian DeMaris, provided the audience with vibrant and inspired performances.
