  {"id":16914,"date":"2016-09-12T11:13:51","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T15:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=16914"},"modified":"2016-09-12T11:13:51","modified_gmt":"2016-09-12T15:13:51","slug":"16914_school-of-communication-and-media-s-steve-mccarthy-produces-montclair-based-film-the-one-that-got-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/college-of-communication-and-media\/2016\/09\/12\/16914_school-of-communication-and-media-s-steve-mccarthy-produces-montclair-based-film-the-one-that-got-away\/","title":{"rendered":"School of Communication and Media&#8217;s Steve McCarthy Produces Montclair-Based Film \u201cThe One That Got Away&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--> <\/p>\n<p>School of Communication and Media\u2019s News Producer Steve McCarthy co-produced a film which shares a significant story about the lives of a former student and teachers in the Township of Montclair.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <\/p>\n<p>The documentary film <em>The One that Got Away<\/em>, which airs locally in September 2016, tells the story of the once promising, popular student Tourrie Moses, from a troubled background who is now in prison for murder, and a group of Glenfield Middle School teachers in Montclair Township who had attempted to nurture his talents and help him thrive as a successful student.<\/p>\n<p>Producers followed&nbsp;Glenfield Middle School social studies&nbsp;teacher Dan Gill who taught the once gifted and promising student, illuminating the relationship between the two men, and examined the circumstances that lead to Moses\u2019s incarceration.<\/p>\n<p>Especially timely and important,&nbsp;<em>The One That Got Away<\/em>&nbsp;addresses issues about teaching, familial and communal responsibility, and at-risk&nbsp;children.&nbsp;The documentary&nbsp;intends to spark a national&nbsp;discussion about these issues, and will be made available to schools nationwide, along with tailor-made study guides, produced by Montclair State\u2019s College of Education and Human Services (CEHS).<\/p>\n<p>ÌÇÐÄvlog Trustee Rose Cali was instrumental in raising funds in Montclair to nationally distribute the film and was the driving force to connect CEHS to nationally support this crucial project.<\/p>\n<p>Producers John Block and&nbsp;Steve McCarthy, both from&nbsp;Montclair, New Jersey, have had long careers in network television, and are National Emmy Award winners.<\/p>\n<p>The film will premiere on Channel 13 on September 12th at 9:30pm, and will air on sister stations NJTV and WLIW (Long Island) in September.
