{"id":210140,"date":"2023-03-15T15:20:40","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T19:20:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/college-of-communication-and-media\/?p=210140"},"modified":"2024-04-08T11:21:37","modified_gmt":"2024-04-08T15:21:37","slug":"wmsc-wins-eight-intercollegiate-broadcast-system-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/college-of-communication-and-media\/2023\/03\/15\/wmsc-wins-eight-intercollegiate-broadcast-system-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"WMSC Wins Eight Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ÌÇÐÄvlog\u2019s radio station 90.3 WMSC-FM won eight Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards on Saturday, February 25, including three first place awards and five finalist awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The three first place awards are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Live Music Broadcast: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Happy Fits &#8211; &#8220;Hold Me Down&#8221; (WMSC Unplugged)\u201d by Jared Tauber<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Campus\/Community News: \u201cCampus Sexual Assault Protest\u201d by JT Bethea<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Business Manager, Sabrina Hajsok.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The five finalist awards are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Station in the Nation with Over 10,000 Students \u2013 90.3 WMSC Upper Montclair<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best News Director \u2013 Hannah Cox<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Program Promotion \u2013 Heavy is the Crown by Kyle Pepitone, Emily McCormack<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Logo \u2013 Identity Crisis by JT Bethea, Terry Dickerson<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Best Radio Drama \u2013 The Golden Record by Chaz Campbell<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jared Tauber, Film and Television Major (class of &#8217;25), is WMSC\u2019s music director. He is the host and producer of WMSC Unplugged, a live music show highlighting local talent. One of the show&#8217;s highlights was having The Happy Fits band on the program. &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Them being on our show signified a major leap for the music team at WMSC, kickstarting the current incarnation of WMSC Unplugged \u2014 our biggest ongoing project\u201d said Tauber. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to be recognized by IBS this way; I\u2019m so proud of my team and what we\u2019ve been able to accomplish this year. Long live LIVE MUSIC.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">JT Bethea, whose reporting on students protesting due to a rise of sexual assault cases, was flattered by the award. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI&#8217;m incredibly honored,\u201d Bethea said. \u201cIt&#8217;s never the mission to win an award but to produce quality work.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senior film major Sabrina Hajsok was filming her thesis film, and was not present at the ceremony. Station Manager Ben Petruk accepted the Best Business Manager award\u00a0 on her behalf.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am so honored to have received the award for IBS\u2019s Best Business Director. Recent national School recognitions include an Edward R.
