(CBI) National Student Electronic Media Convention<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">October 22-25 in Denver, taking home eight broadcast media awards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WMSC received <\/span><b>six national awards<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, including first-place for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Best Student Media Website<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">wmscradio.com<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Best Audio Hard News Reporting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Traffic Deaths and Vision Zero<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Best Video Feature News Reporting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scaling Back<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The station also placed nationally in several additional categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Radio Station of the Year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 3rd Place<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Best Hard News Reporting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">California Fires Aftermath<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 3rd Place<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Best Sports Reporting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">March Madness Sweet 16<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 4th Place<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese awards reflect the dedication, creativity and professionalism of our student journalists,\u201d said <\/span><b>Ben Capp<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, WMSC News Director. \u201cEach project represents hours of hard work and a shared commitment to telling stories that matter to our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Red Hawk Sports Network Wins First 1st Place Award<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RHSN secured two major national awards:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Best Live Sports Broadcast Video<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for coverage of the <\/span><b>Men\u2019s NJAC Basketball Finals <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014 1st Place\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Best SportsCast Video<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for the studio show <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Inside the Nest <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014 3rd Place<\/span><b><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is the first time RHSN captured top honors at the CBI Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is our first, first-place finish at the CBI Awards after years of being nominated,\u201d said <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=gitlins\"><b>Professor Stacy Gitlin<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cWe\u2019ve worked incredibly hard on our live broadcasts\u2014growing from three cameras and a pair of broadcasters to a full production with a 15-minute live pregame, sideline reporters, replays, packages and interviews across a five-camera setup. This is a huge accomplishment, and I\u2019m really proud of our students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RHSN production intern <\/span><b>Ryan Tullio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> said the crew hit its stride at the perfect time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAll teams hope to peak heading into the playoffs, and that\u2019s exactly what happened for us,\u201d said Tullio. \u201cEverything clicked. That broadcast became the perfect warm-up for hosting the NCAA Tournament. We were really proud of the work we put out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=denovellisb\"><b>Professor<\/b> <b>Bryan DeNovellis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> praised the evolution of RHSN\u2019s flagship studio program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Inside the Nest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is one of our two studio shows\u2014but it\u2019s the flagship, the way <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SportsCenter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is for ESPN,\u201d said DeNovellis. \u201cWe\u2019re constantly growing and experimenting with new ways to use the studio. Our coverage of Montclair State\u2019s 18 varsity sports (now 19 with the addition of Women\u2019s Flag Football in the Spring) is something we\u2019re truly proud of. Taking third place in such a competitive field was incredible, and we have our sights set on the top next year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Students Lead on the National Stage<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eleven WMSC students attended the convention, participating in three days of workshops, panels and networking covering journalism, production, leadership and digital media innovation. Four students were panelists, sharing their expertise with peers from across the country. The awards ceremony was emceed by CCOM <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/profilepages\/view_profile.php?username=kaminskit\"><b>Professor, Tom Kaminski<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen you give students the freedom to explore and discover, they soar. The station features music, talk, sports and news programming produced by students pursuing hands-on experience in journalism, broadcasting and media production.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u200b\u200b<\/span><b>About <\/b><b>Red Hawk Sports Network (RHSN)\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/montclairathletics.com\/sports\/2020\/4\/18\/red-hawk-sports-network\"><b>RHSN<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">launched in the Fall of 2019 and is a joint venture between the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and ÌÇÐÄvlog\u2019s College of Communication and Media.
