As a registered nurse caring for adults in long term care facilities and in the community, she also served as a peer development coach during her studies at Montclair.

She managed staff development activities, served as the lead preceptor orienting new staff nurses, and spearheaded new training programs that improved quality and care outcomes.

She also worked as a learning associate in the Essex County College Learning Center, where she taught remedial English courses, ran student success workshops and monitored student progress in writing and test preparation.

Ms. Alabi-Gonzalez was employed full-time while attending the RN-BSN program. Working on the cardiac-telemetry unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, she continued precepting new orientees and facilitated inter-professional teamwork to improve staff communication. Ms. Alabi-Gonzalez received her BSN degree in 2018. She enrolled in the MSN degree program with a specialty concentration in the educator role. Ms. Alabi-Gonzalez joined the Montclair faculty in Fall 2021currently serves as clinical specialist at Montclair in Fall 2021.

She created the Student Nurses Association with 151 nursing students enrolled under her leadership. She was appointed and trained as an RWJBH Emerging Leader at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in 2021.

Since 2007, he has played an instrumental role overseeing the hospital’s transformation.

Recognizing the importance of network affiliations to clinical excellence and financial viability, he negotiated the joint venture formed by the Hackensack University Health Network, and LHP Hospital Group. This has resulted in a dramatic revitalization of the 125-year-old Mountainside hospital.

John’s recent achievements include the hospital’s successful transition in 2019 to Epic, considered the gold standard among electronic health records systems.

He was also instrumental in securing an agreement that paved the way for Mountainside to become a future satellite of the John Theurer Cancer Center, offering enhanced oncology services to the community.

A seasoned veteran in healthcare operations, John’s career spans more than 30 years.

John extended his planned retirement date to skillfully guide his hospital through the Covid-19 crisis in one of the hardest-hit regions of the country, with over 500 recovered Covid-positive patients eventually discharged home.

Dawn Aubel, EdD, MPH, APNc – Friend /distinguished-graduates/2019/05/16/dawn-aubel-edd-mph-apnc/ /distinguished-graduates/2019/05/16/dawn-aubel-edd-mph-apnc/#respond Thu, 16 May 2019 15:02:20 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/distinguished-graduates/?p=61 Dawn Aubel is the Director of Global Patient Relations at Novartis Oncology, ensuring that patients’ perspectives are incorporated in clinical research, as well as improving access to treatment and support. She has been a nurse in the areas of clinical care, population health, and research, for over 30 years.

Aubel received a doctorate in health services organization and leadership, a Master of Science in nursing, as well as a Master of Public Health, from Columbia University. Her undergraduate degree in nursing is from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is certified by the American Nurses Certification Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Aubel has extensive experience in primary care, cancer survivorship care, and in health services delivery. She has won a number of awards, including the President’s Award for her work in wellness; and the Global Human Resources Award for Energy & Culture for cancer survivorship, and most recently, the eyeforpharma Collaboration Award with Johns Hopkins University.

Frederick Bonato, Ph.D. – Friend /distinguished-graduates/2018/05/18/frederick-bonato-ph-d/ /distinguished-graduates/2018/05/18/frederick-bonato-ph-d/#respond Fri, 18 May 2018 18:19:02 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/distinguished-graduates/?p=135 Dr. Bonato is the provost and vice-president for academic affairs for Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City. From 1995 to 2012, Dr. Bonato served Saint Peter’s in a variety of roles, including professor, director of faculty research and sponsored programs, senate president and chair of the psychology department. From 2013 until 2017 he served as the associate provost for academic affairs at ÌÇÐÄvlog before returning to Saint Peter’s in July 2017 to serve as university provost.

During his tenure at ÌÇÐÄvlog, Dr. Bonato had numerous accomplishments, including, co-leading a project for the creation of the School of Nursing and providing leadership for the development of the Center for Clinical Services that opened in 2016. In addition, Dr. Bonato oversaw the modernization of electronic systems for the Institutional Review Board, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and Career Services. He also chaired the task force that resulted in Montclair State’s Carnegie Foundation classification as a Community Engaged Institution in 2015 as well as initiated the transition of the Office of Service Learning to the Center for Community Engagement.

Bonato earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He has published widely on aeromedical topics such as sensory interaction, motion sickness, space motion sickness, and commercial spaceflight. His work has been funded by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the U.S. Department of Education. Media outlets including NBC and the Science Channel have covered his work. Since 2010, he has served as the editor-in-chief of Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance, the official journal of the Aerospace Medical Association.

Dr. Bonato is a past president (2016-2017) of the Eastern Psychological Association—the largest and oldest regional psychology association in the United States. He is a fellow of the Eastern Psychological Association and the Aerospace Medical Association. In 2015 he was nominated and elected to the International Academy for Aviation and Space Medicine. In 2018, Bonato was honored as the inaugural distinguished speaker at the ÌÇÐÄvlog School of Nursing’s first convocation, where he was also awarded the school’s first ‘nursing pin’ at its traditional pinning ceremony.
