Montclair State Receives 2019 Scorecard from Energy Star’s Higher Education Benchmarking Initiative

During 2020, Montclair State participated in the ENERGY STAR® Higher Education Benchmarking Initiative (HEBI). The HEBI analysis examined energy & water usage data from 2019 across over 100 colleges & universities, taking into consideration an institution’s enrollment, Carnegie ranking, and other factors so it could group like institutions for comparison.

- Montclair State’s EUI: 219.4
- Median Source EUI: 188.9
- Montclair State ranked 16 out of the 21 R2: Doctoral Universities with high research activity that submitted energy usage data.
Campus Water Use Intensity (gal/ft²):
- Montclair State’s WUI: 32.0
- Median Source WUI: 24.3
- Montclair State ranked 15 out of the 18 R2: Doctoral Universities with high research activity that submitted water usage data.
