As mid-semester approaches, faculty may find themselves confronting instances of academic dishonesty. Our panelists, representing a variety of disciplines, will share their strategies for limiting academic dishonesty before it happens and responding effectively when it inevitably occurs. The session will also address reporting options faculty have for submitting academic dishonesty reports and how the University resolves those reports.

AI for Research: A Hands-On Playground of AI Tools for Literature Reviews

Join the Office for Faculty Excellence and University Libraries for a hands-on session focused on AI tools that are relevant to the literature review and discovery process (e.g., Research Rabbit, Elicit). In this workshop, you will be paired up with a colleague in a different discipline to test out several tools. You will have the opportunity to evaluate the tools’ usefulness and functionality, and critically discuss using AI tools in the literature review process for yourself, as well as for your students. Participants should bring a laptop or a tablet.

Human Flourishing

Inspired by the transformative work of the��at the University of Wisconsin, led by psychologist and neuroscientist��, human flourishing is the development of well-being through cultivating mindfulness, awareness, connection, wisdom, and purpose. Well-being is a skill that can be learned and enhanced through training and practice.

Human Flourishing is an interdisciplinary field, and many at Montclair are already doing work in human flourishing. This series supports like-minded faculty and staff to share their wisdom and expertise so more students can gain from the art and science of Human Flourishing.

The Series

Workshops in the Human Flourishing Series will be offered monthly. Attendance is open to all Montclair faculty and staff. Attend any or all of the workshops in the series.��Workshops will be facilitated by Elenice DeSouza Oliveira, with guest speakers from the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Faculty members are not on their own when it comes to supporting students. We know faculty play a crucial role in fostering a nurturing environment that addresses students’ broader needs of well-being and success. It’s a collective effort that involves engaging departments and resources. Instructors might not always be aware of the types of resources they can refer their students to. To bridge this gap, representatives from the Dean of Students Office (DOS) will shed light on the available resources as well as address the DOS’s role in helping students deal with their absences effectively, this week’s Strong Student Campaign theme. Dr. Barry Bachenheimer will share how he uses digital tools such as memes, FlipGrid videos, Bitmojis, and podcasts to engage online students in a more creative and interactive manner. These approaches have helped him ensure that his students are completing original thoughts and work! Bachenheimer will provide practical and hands-on examples and tips for integrating these ideas into your courses. You can expect to come away with a better understanding of how to engage students using digital pedagogy as well as the benefits of doing so.

About the speaker

Dr. Barry Bachenheimer has been an adjunct professor at ��vlog since 1998 in the Teaching & Learning and Educational Leadership Departments. He currently teaches in the Educational Leadership Master’s Degree Program. He is a member of the ��vlog Network for Educational Renewal Executive Board. Dr. Bachenheimer was the recipient of the prestigious Ercel Watson Award from the University in 2009 for his ongoing support of teacher education programs.
