Sessions with experienced writing consultants are designed to provide help on every aspect of the writing process, with the goal of enabling students to achieve long-term improvement, confidence and independence.<\/p>\n<p>Conferences are generally a maximum of 25 minutes and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We also schedule appointments in advance, and we are now offering online consultations. There is no charge for these services.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, we can help you with\u2014<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Getting started<\/strong>: Understanding the writing task and generating ideas<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drafting<\/strong>: Developing a focus and an argument, selecting appropriate evidence and organizing your ideas<\/li>\n<li><strong>Revising<\/strong>: Choosing strategies to improve drafts<\/li>\n<li><strong>Polishing<\/strong>: Learning to edit your own writing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To prepare for your session, come with\u2014<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assignment<\/li>\n<li>Text for course (if you are taking one)<\/li>\n<li>All work you have done to get started (any freewriting and notes)<\/li>\n<li>A draft of your paper (if you have one)<\/li>\n<li>Your goal for the conference<\/li>\n<li><strong>Most important<\/strong>, specific question or writing problem for which you would like help<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What we don\u2019t do\u2014<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proofread or edit your papers for you, but we will help you learn how to do so.<\/li>\n<li>Interpret (if you are a student) comments your instructor made on your paper or discuss grades, but we will look at your efforts to revise.<\/li>\n<li>Review more than four to five pages at a time, though you are welcome to return.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Schedule your appointment online at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/cwe\">Center for Writing Excellence<\/a><br \/>\nQuestions?
