At this time, it appears the issue is limited to Chrome users and does not affect those using Microsoft Edge, Safari, or other browsers.

Information Technology has escalated the issue to Google Support. There is no current fix, but we are working with them to identify and resolve the problem. In the meantime, we recommend accessing Gmail through an alternate browser if you encounter difficulties.

Please report any related issues to the IT Service Desk at 973-655-7971, or “” through the Self-Service portal so that we can continue to monitor and assist affected users.

Internet Explorer End of Life /information-technology/2023/12/14/internet-explorer-end-of-life/ /information-technology/2023/12/14/internet-explorer-end-of-life/#respond Thu, 14 Dec 2023 19:57:38 +0000 /information-technology/?p=23765 Goodbye, Internet Explorer!

As of June 14, 2022, Internet Explorer has reached its “End of Life” (EOL) and will no longer receive any security updates. Microsoft has replaced Internet Explorer with Microsoft Edge. If you are still utilizing Internet Explorer we ask that you begin using other supported browsers – Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and more.

To prevent any potential security risks associated with outdated browsers, we are planning to remove and/or deactivate Internet Explorer from all University-owned and managed devices on Monday, January 29th. If you would like to take your favorites into your new browser, you can find directions .

Important Change to Mandatory Updates on Windows Devices /information-technology/2023/12/14/important-change-to-mandatory-updates-on-windows-devices/ /information-technology/2023/12/14/important-change-to-mandatory-updates-on-windows-devices/#respond Thu, 14 Dec 2023 19:54:10 +0000 /information-technology/?p=23762 Beginning January 2024, Information Technology will improve our operating system update process on all Windows workstations connected to Active Directory (AD) by transitioning to Microsoft Intune for Windows.

What this means for Windows users:  updates will be automatically installed on your machine after the second Tuesday of each month.  No action is required on your part to make this happen, but you will be required to reboot your computer within 7 days of each update.

We recommend that you restart your device within 24-48 hours of the update. Again, you will have up to 7 days to reboot before the system reboots automatically as per the pop-up notification shown in the screenshot below.

restart device message

Please keep in mind that if you forget to reboot your workstation within approximately 7 days, it will automatically reboot without your ability to stop it. Therefore, please make sure that all your work is saved and reboot the system when you have control to do so. You will receive pop-up messages, similar to the one shown in the image above, reminding you to reboot before the system does so automatically.

Please Note: We have implemented a similar process with Mac OS X workstations using Nudge.

IT Network Maintenance Announcement – January 12, 2024 /information-technology/2023/12/14/it-network-maintenance-announcement-january-12-2024/ /information-technology/2023/12/14/it-network-maintenance-announcement-january-12-2024/#respond Thu, 14 Dec 2023 16:43:01 +0000 /information-technology/?p=23759 Information Technology is planning our bi-annual Network maintenance window prior to the start of the Spring semester to minimize impact to our faculty and students.  The scheduled date for this work is Friday, January 12th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

As with previous planned network maintenance periods, users should expect several brief interruptions of Internet and telephone connectivity to/from the campus while the network routers and firewall devices are rebooted. We will do our best to minimize the duration of any outages but cannot guarantee how frequently they might occur during the 2-hour window. We will also make arrangements to maintain Campus Police telephone service and the campus web server availability during the maintenance period.

While the Bloomfield College campus itself will not be impacted by this scheduled maintenance, some shared services such as NetID authentication to applications like Google Workspace and Workday may be unavailable sporadically between 5-7pm.

Further reminders will follow as the January 12 date approaches.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact  the IT Service Desk at x7971 or send an email to itservicedesk@mail.montclair.edu
