If your current Apple ID on any of your Apple devices uses a @montclair.edu email address, you will need to switch to a personal email address. Apple IDs that contain @mail.montclair.edu accounts are not affected. Please Note: Do not create a new Apple ID as it will affect purchases and/or stored data.

What Happens Next?

If you are an employee or student using a personal Apple ID linked to a “@montclair.edu” MSU email address, you will receive an email and device notification from Apple. The notification will request that you rename your Apple ID email address. Failing to update your Apple ID email address within 60 days will result in an automatic change to a temporary Apple ID by Apple.

Please Note: The university does not have access to your data, and your data will stay with your account.

How To Change Your Apple ID

Please follow the step-by-step instructions provided by Apple on how to .

  • Log in using the email address that you set up using the @montclair.edu email address provided in the notification from Apple. Please Note: This is not your NetID and password.
  • Update your Apple ID to a personal email address you already have access to. There will be a verification step. If you do not have another email address, you can set up a free account at sites such as icloud.com, gmail.com, and outlook.com.

What Will Happen If I Do Not Change My Apple ID

  • After the initial 30 days – Services such as iMessage, and Facetime will be inaccessible until the Apple ID email address is changed.
  • After 60 days – The Apple ID email address will be changed to a temporary username by Apple. The format will be changed to NETID-MSU.edu@temporary.appleid.com. In order to change your Apple ID email address after the 60-day period, sign in with the temporary Apple ID and change the Apple ID email address.

What If I Am Using A University-Owned Device?

For those with University-owned iPhones or iPads, please continue using your device as usual. Further instructions will be provided after the initial migration is complete.

Update Your Personal Zoom by November 6, 2022 /information-technology/2022/11/03/update-your-personal-zoom-by-november-6-2022/ /information-technology/2022/11/03/update-your-personal-zoom-by-november-6-2022/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2022 14:31:32 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/information-technology/?p=23029 Note: This memo is a courtesy reminder for anyone using the Zoom web conferencing software on their personally-owned computer, smartphone, or tablet.  All University-owned computers provided to faculty and staff that are maintained by the IT Division or the distributed technology groups in each college should already be at the latest versions of the Zoom client through automatic updates, so no action is required.

To continue using the Zoom client on your personally-owned devices, you must upgrade the software by November 6th.

In an effort to maintain product performance and improve the security of its platform, Zoom will be requiring all users to be on its latest Zoom Client beginning Saturday, November 6, 2022. This affects all Zoom Clients across any personal computers, smartphones, or tablets you may own. (see chart below)

For anyone using an older version, you will be forced to upgrade starting on Saturday, November 6th before you can open the Zoom client or enter a meeting. Please Note: While we encourage you to use the Zoom client, anyone using Zoom through a browser will not be affected. However, using the browser for Zoom does not have all the same security levels, features, and functions as the client.

What Do I Need to Do?

University-Owned and Managed Devices

Information Technology has been automatically distributing the latest Zoom client upgrade since Friday, October 27th.  We have proactively removed any older versions and installed the correct version. If you are not on the correct version (see chart below), please contact the IT Service Desk or your local technology team.

New Service Launched: Campus e911 Location Feature /information-technology/2022/11/03/new-service-launched-campus-e911-location-feature/ /information-technology/2022/11/03/new-service-launched-campus-e911-location-feature/#respond Thu, 03 Nov 2022 13:49:25 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/information-technology/?p=23018 Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) has made many upgrades and changes to campus telephone services over the past few years. Our latest feature upgrade is one of great importance for our campus community: Enhanced 911 or ‘e911’ location services.

This e911 solution will also enable softphone users to update their location when using the softphone application on their university PC, whether working remotely or using the softphone while in the office. Please note that since the softphone is running on your PC and not a physical phone on your office desk, softphone users will be required to provide their current location when they start up the softphone application or whenever they change physical location. If you use the softphone application, please see the attached screenshots or read the complete documentation here for instructions on how to enter your current location into the softphone application.

The e911 solution relies on accurate location information for every user. As such, please remember that all telecommunications equipment moves must be completed by IT Telecom engineers so that location data can be updated and maintained properly. If you require a phone equipment move, please email itservicedesk@montclair.edu, attention Telecom, and do not move the equipment yourself.

Community members may still contact University Police at 973-655-5222 for any concerns or questions.
