This phase was marked by a 3-day onsite event Tuesday, March 10 through Thursday, March 12, attended by 100 members of the project team.

Together, they began testing complete business processes from start to finish to ensure the system supports the University’s academic and administrative operations as expected.

For example, testers moved test “students” through key processes—from pre-term processing and add/drop, to midterm and end-of-term—to ensure critical functions such as onboarding, registration, advising, and financial aid worked smoothly and without errors. When issues do arise, they are identified quickly and addressed right away.

E2E testing helps confirm that key processes work together smoothly and allows the team to identify improvements as we prepare for go-live in Spring 2027.

While this is a significant step forward, it isn’t the only opportunity for the campus community to get involved. E2E testing will continue after this week, and additional engagement opportunities will be available throughout the project, giving faculty and staff the chance to experience the system and provide valuable feedback.

The Change Network is a group of faculty, staff, and students who help share information about the Workday Student Project within their areas and provide feedback to the project team. Participants in the Change Network will get early access to demos, features and functionality; provide meaningful feedback; and play a key role in supporting the University community through this change.

Windows 11 Forced Restart – October 14th /information-technology/2022/10/18/windows-11-forced-restart-october-14th/ /information-technology/2022/10/18/windows-11-forced-restart-october-14th/#respond Tue, 18 Oct 2022 14:29:14 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/information-technology/?p=22958 The Division of Information Technology has successfully upgraded a majority of our eligible and managed machines to Windows 11 across campus. For machines that were not eligible due to the age of the computer or the chipset, those machines received a security update to Windows 10 – 21H2 until the machine is replaced via our Computer LifeCycle Program or reimaged.

Forced Restart

Unfortunately, we noticed a small percentage of clients  who have not completed the process of upgrading by restarting their machines.  Unfortunately, there is not a way to accurately identify all of the users to alert them separately.  On October 14, 2022 at 1:00pm, we will launch our mandatory restart for machines that have been updated and not yet restarted.   A reminder will be set beginning that Monday, October 10th.  We ask that you plan accordingly and if possible, restart your computer prior to the mandatory restart date and time to suit your schedule to avoid the forced restart.

Please Note: Please plan appropriately as upon restart of your machine(s), it will take up to 1 hour for the update to complete.  As a reminder, you should make a habit of restarting your machine.

About Windows 11 or 10(21H2)

Upgrading to Windows 11 introduces a more feature rich operating system. Most functionality between Windows 10 and Windows 11 is similar but you will see a redesigned user interface, with a new logon screen, start menu, task bar, and snap layouts. You should also see a smoother transition from monitor to laptop, as Windows will now remember how your apps were positioned when you unplug from a monitor. The update also allows us to incorporate tools that will allow us to better manage software and security updates and deployments remotely.

Windows 11 User Documentation

Please Note:  Information Technology strongly recommends restarting your computer and/or those you manage on a regular basis.

Questions?

If you have questions regarding either the Windows 11 or Windows 10 -21H2 deployment, please contact the IT Service Desk (973-655-7971, opt. 1) or your local Academic Technology team.

Security Guidance for Flexible Working /information-technology/2021/11/17/security-guidance-for-flexible-working/ /information-technology/2021/11/17/security-guidance-for-flexible-working/#respond Wed, 17 Nov 2021 18:23:52 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/information-technology/?p=22038 For any eligible staff who may be working remotely on occasion, there are a number of things to keep in mind in keeping the University Community and our data safe and secure.

Workstation Use: Those with University-issued desktop or laptop should use the provided machine for all University-related activities, whether working remotely or while on campus. Personal devices should be used only for activities that do not involve sensitive University data.

Security tips for Workstations:

  • Be sure to complete the mandatory University IT security training to make sure you are aware and practice good security habits.
  • Store University data on MSUFiles or Google Drive, instead of the device’s internal storage (C: drive)
  • Always specifically put a laptop into sleep/shutdown mode when not actively being used (Simply closing the laptop cover may not properly lock the machine).
  • Do not leave any laptops or devices unattended outside of private and secure work spaces.
  • Ensure computers are kept up-to-date with all operating system and software patches. For University managed-computers, apply updates when prompted.
  • Ensure that antivirus software is installed and check that it is functioning and up to date. Sophos Antivirus is available in the .

Please visit the Security Guidance for Flexible Working page for more details on the above topics as well as other tips on how to securely share sensitive information, access applications remotely, and guard against “phishing” attempts.

Coming soon!  An announcement will be made for a number of new remote work enabling features for campus phones

Windows 10 is Here! /information-technology/2018/10/29/windows-10-is-here/ /information-technology/2018/10/29/windows-10-is-here/#respond Mon, 29 Oct 2018 20:05:45 +0000 http://www.montclair.edu/information-technology/?p=9722 The University is in the process of migrating all users to Windows 10. Migration to Windows 10 will be achieved through several methods: new computer deliveries, lifecycle replacements, during repairs or scheduled department migrations. All campus computer labs have already been upgraded. Microsoft will be ending support of the current version of Windows by January 2020. It is the campus’ goal to upgrade all leased machines by May 2019. This upgrade will be scheduled by department.
