Following these rulings <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">23 states have passed legislation completely eliminating this sentence, and <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid11\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">others are grappling with the process. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page6R_mcid12\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid13\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">In this<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid14\" class=\"markedContent\"> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">round-table discussion we will address issues surrounding lengthy <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sentences for youth, the research supporting opportunities for release, and <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid16\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">advocacy movements to eliminate life and \u201cvirtual-life\u201d sentences for young <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page6R_mcid17\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moderated by Dr. Tarika Daftary-Kapur (Justice Studies) &amp; Dr. Tina Zottoli (Psychology) April 13th 5-7pmDickson Hall, Room 177 Juvenile Life without Parole (LWOP) as an issue has been at the forefront of criminal justice reform starting with two Supreme Court cases in 2012 and 2016 that eliminated mandatory LWOP for juveniles.
