However, many print books, particularly textbooks, are not for sale to libraries as e-books, even if they are available to individuals. Therefore, instructors are encouraged to request course reserves for Fall \u201920 as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, print books are available for a two-hour loan period through the Library\u2019s Print Reserves collection. Unfortunately, the Library\u2019s ability to provide this service is limited during the pandemic because the Library has adopted a 96-hour quarantine period for handling print or physical materials, based on the Reopening Archives, Libraries and Museums (REALM) Project\u2019s research-supported guidelines.\u00a0 The REALM COVID-19 Research Project is being conducted by the global library cooperative OCLC, the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences and the nonprofit applied science and technology development company Battelle.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever possible, the Library encourages instructors to assign materials already freely available online or licensed through the library catalog (<a href=\"http:\/\/montclair.edu\/library\">montclair.edu\/library<\/a>) to help minimize Montclair students\u2019 textbook expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Sprague Librarians can assist instructors in locating textbook alternatives from both existing library e-resources and <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libguides.com\/openaccess\">open educational resources<\/a> (OER), and Access Services staff can assist with scanning and placing selections of material held by the library or provided by instructors through electronic reserves into your Canvas course.<\/p>\n<p>Questions about Course Reserves should be directed as follows:<\/p>\n<p>For course reserves, write to <a href=\"mailto:circreserves@montclair.edu\">circreserves@montclair.edu<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor multimedia reserves, write to <a href=\"mailto:shapiros@montclair.edu\">shapiros@montclair.edu<\/a>.<br \/>\nTo submit a course reserves request, instructors should fill out the <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libwizard.com\/f\/reserves2020\">Course Reserves Request form<\/a>.<br \/>\nFor assistance finding textbook alternatives, contact the appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/library\/about-the-library\/liaison-librarians\/\">liaison librarian<\/a> or contact our <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libanswers.com\/\">Ask a Librarian<\/a> service.<br \/>\nAdditional information about Sprague Library Course Reserves is available through the Course Reserves page on the library website and the library <a href=\"https:\/\/montclair.libanswers.com\/search\/?t=0&amp;q=reserves\">reserves FAQ<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sprague Library is licensing more e-books and streaming media, and its course reserves materials will be available to students mostly online.
