In today&#8217;s globalized and globalizing world, one is always more\u00a0<em>marketable<\/em>\u00a0with a language major or minor on one&#8217;s r\u00e9sum\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What We Offer:\u00a0<\/strong>The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers French, German, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese and Japanese. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/french\/\" title=\"Home%20%BB%20Montclair%20State%20%BB%20College%20of%20Humanities%20and%20Social%20Sciences%20%BB%20Modern%20Languages%20and%20Literatures%20%BB%20French%20Program\">French<\/a>, one can focus on any of the following three concentrations:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/french-teacher-certification-preschool-grade-12-ba\/\">Teacher Education\u00a0<\/a>(which leads to certification to teach French),<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/french-civilization-concentration-ba\/\">\u00a0Civilization<\/a>\u00a0(a general liberal arts curriculum), or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.montclair.edu\/programs\/french-translation-concentration-ba\/\" title=\"Home%20%BB%20Montclair%20State%20%BB%20College%20of%20Humanities%20and%20Social%20Sciences%20%BB%20Modern%20Languages%20and%20Literatures%20%BB%20French%20Program%20%BB%20French%20Major%2C%20Translation%20Concentration\">Translation<\/a>\u00a0(with Simultaneous Interpreting). The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/arabic\/?wp_logged_in=true\" title=\"Home%20%BB%20Montclair%20State%20%BB%20College%20of%20Humanities%20and%20Social%20Sciences%20%BB%20Modern%20Languages%20and%20Literatures%20%BB%20Arabic%20Program\">Arabic\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/russian-program\/?wp_logged_in=true\">Russian<\/a>\u00a0programs have two possible minors &#8212; in language and area studies. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/german\/?wp_logged_in=true\">German\u00a0<\/a>major has been reinstated, and students can also minor in the language.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/modern-languages-and-literatures\/programs-of-study\/hebrew-program\/\">Hebrew\u00a0<\/a>is now working on creating a minor for the future. Students can currently minor in Chinese, and Japanese is offered at all levels of language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Double Majoring in Language and Political Science or International Business:<\/strong>\u00a0Many of our language majors or minors also study\u00a0<em>Political Science\u00a0<\/em>and<em>\u00a0International Business<\/em>, or\u00a0<em>Asian Studies<\/em>. Also, we encourage study abroad (and help with all the details to make it happen &#8212; students can go abroad for a semester or a full year).
