Applying for financial aid reduces the out-of-pocket cost of a college education to help make it an affordable reality. If your College Financing Plan\/NEST indicates that you are eligible for any federal or state funding for the 2026-27 year, be advised that your eligibility status and aid amounts are an estimate. Both your eligibility status and award amounts are subject to change for reasons including, but not limited to, funding of these programs by the federal or state legislatures, actual tuition charges, actual enrollment status, cost of attendance and verification of your financial aid application.<\/p>\n<p>Our aim is to provide clear options to assist you to stay enrolled and continue your college experience. The information below is meant to serve as a guide for you as you assess your personal financial situation now and in the future. All undergraduate and graduate students may explore the options described on the financial aid pages.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/a> is available December 1, 2024 &#8211; June 30, 2026. Please file your FAFSA as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<li>The 2026\u201327 FAFSA is available now at <a href=\"http:\/\/studentaid.gov\/\">studentaid.gov<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If you received a NJ TAG Grant in the 2025\u201326 year, you must file your 2026\u201327 FAFSA before <strong>April 15, 2026<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>New Jersey HESAA is offering FAFSA Completion webinars. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hesaa.org\/pages\/fafsa.aspx\">Join a Webinar Today!\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Things to Know about FAFSA<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">How has the FAFSA Changed&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Some of the changes to the FAFSA include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A streamlined form with less questions you have to answer and how long it takes you to complete the application.<\/li>\n<li>The use of consent for the US Department of Education to import your (or your spouse&#8217;s or parents&#8217;) tax information instead of you having to manual import it.<\/li>\n<li>The Student Aid Index (SAI) is used to determine your financial aid eligibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Do I Need a New FSA ID for the FAFSA&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>If you already have an FSA ID, you will use that one. If you have any difficulty remembering or accessing that ID, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/fsa-id\/sign-in\/landing\">studentaid.gov website<\/a> to retrieve your ID or reset your password.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have an FSA ID, you will <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/fsa-id\/create-account\/launch\">create<\/a> one first. You will have to wait three days to receive your valid FSA ID.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Who Is Considered the Parent on the FAFSA&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>The &#8216;parent&#8217; that should be included on the FAFSA is the parent(s) who provided the majority of the student&#8217;s support over the 12 months prior to filing the FAFSA, even if the student does not live with that parent. There is a \u2018Parent Wizard\u2019 to help you determine which parent(s) are included on the FAFSA.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">Does My Parent Need a FSA ID&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Yes, if your parent(s)\/step-parent does not already have an FSA ID, they need to obtain their own FSA ID at studentaid.gov. It can take three days for the request to be processed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">My Parent&lpar;s&rpar; Does Not Have a Social Security number&period; How Do They Get an FSA ID&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasfaa.org\/uploads\/documents\/FSA_ID_without_SSN.pdf\">How To Submit the FAFSA Form if Your Contributor Doesn\u2019t Have an SSN<\/a> <strong>(English)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasfaa.org\/uploads\/documents\/Spanish_FSA_ID_without_SSN.pdf\">How To Submit the FAFSA Form if Your Contributor Doesn\u2019t Have an SSN<\/a> <strong>(Spanish)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">I Have Filed My FAFSA&comma; What Happens Now&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Check the status of your form starting in late January by logging into your <a href=\"http:\/\/studentAid.gov\">studentaid.gov<\/a> account and selecting your FAFSA submission in the My Activity section of the dashboard. Once ready, your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS) including preliminary aid eligibility information will be emailed to you in late mid March (this is an approximate timeline).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">What If I Cannot Provide My Parent&lpar;s&rpar; Information&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>Complete the FAFSA with your information and indicate that you have unusual circumstances (there is a check off box). The student should complete their section, then invite their parent as a contributor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer\"><div class=\"prpl-drawer-header\">What is the Student Aid Index &lpar;SAI&rpar;&quest;<\/div><div class=\"prpl-drawer-content\">\n<p>The Student Aid Index (SAI) is used to determine the amount of need-based financial aid a student is eligible to receive. The SAI more accurately reflects the amount of financial aid a student is eligible to receive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Still have questions? Please be aware that declining any form of aid will increase the amount due on a student&#8217;s bill. ÌÇÐÄvlog recommends that a student speak with the staff in Red Hawk Central before they decide to decline any aid. Students wishing to decline their loans may do so via their NEST portal. However if you wish to decline\/refuse grants or scholarships, you must submit a signed, dated letter indicating which fund(s) (e.g. Pell, TAG, etc.) you wish to decline.
