Students Beatriz Gamarra (pictured here in purple jacket), and Dalia Vargas (not pictured but also from the same class) interpreted for the families at a recent Montclair event. Dr. María José García Vizcaíno (professor, “Translation and Health Services” pictured here with Masiel Rodriquez-Vars, Executive Director, MFEE [in black t-shirt]) accompanied the students to the event. Also, informational materials (flyers and brochures) were translated into Spanish for this event.

Dr. García Vizcaíno, noted “It is great to see that what students are learning in the class can make a difference in the real world and thanks to their interpreting skills, Spanish-speaking families who were reluctant to get the vaccine, now they are getting their first shot!”
