{"id":71,"date":"2018-05-24T18:06:41","date_gmt":"2018-05-24T18:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/ecele\/?page_id=71"},"modified":"2018-12-18T09:17:34","modified_gmt":"2018-12-18T14:17:34","slug":"newark-montclair-urban-teacher-residency-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/teaching-and-learning\/academic-programs\/newark-montclair-urban-teacher-residency-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Newark Montclair Urban Teacher Residency Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ÌÇÐÄvlog, in partnership with the Newark Public Schools, is offering an innovative teacher preparation program known as the Newark-Montclair Urban Teacher Residency (NMUTR).<\/p>\n<p>The Newark Montclair Urban Teacher Residency program is an\u00a0<strong>initial teacher certification program<\/strong>\u00a0for college graduates and career changers with a deep commitment to\u00a0<strong>urban education<\/strong>. Students pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with teacher certification in either Early Childhood (P-3)\/Special Education or Secondary Education (K-12) Mathematics or Science from ÌÇÐÄvlog.<\/p>\n<p>Working from the model of medical residencies, and based on research about successful teacher preparation programs, the NMUTR:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Embeds Residents in the schools and classrooms of the Newark Public Schools (NPS)<\/li>\n<li>Provides on-site coursework in a cohort-style environment of no more than 15 students<\/li>\n<li>Matches each Resident with a school-based Master Mentor Teacher<\/li>\n<li>Provides graduates from the NMUTR with intensive induction support, mentoring and professional development through their first three years of teaching<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Residents in the NMUTR also benefit from the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A living stipend of $26,000 \u2013 $30,000 provided during the residency<\/li>\n<li>A tuition waiver covering approximately two-thirds of the tuition cost<\/li>\n<li>Hiring preference by the Newark Public Schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The NMUTR is in its final grant year.
