  {"id":18019,"date":"2017-04-26T10:29:40","date_gmt":"2017-04-26T14:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/news\/article.php?ArticleID=18019"},"modified":"2018-09-28T10:19:03","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T14:19:03","slug":"18019_mll-students-translating-historical-documents-into-haitian-creole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.montclair.edu\/translation-and-interpreting\/2017\/04\/26\/18019_mll-students-translating-historical-documents-into-haitian-creole\/","title":{"rendered":"MLL Students Translating Historical Documents into Haitian Creole- 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Colony in Crisis<\/em> in Haitian Creole Translation: Digital Scholarship in the Making at ÌÇÐÄvlog<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The digital history project <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/colonyincrisis.lib.umd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">A Colony in Crisis: The Saint-Domingue Grain Shortage of 1789<\/a> is a virtual primary source document reader in translation focusing on colonial Saint-Domingue that was initiated by the University of Maryland in 2014. The reader offers three sets of curated English translations of French archival sources on political life, commerce, the lives of people of color, and the moments leading up to the Haitian Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Stakeholders at Montclair State including the Center for the Digital Humanities are now contributing to this project to offer a first set of Creole translations. <strong>Daphney Vastey<\/strong> and <strong>Pierre Malbranche<\/strong>, both French majors in the translation concentration, are the two student translators involved in the pilot phase of this endeavor.
