The 2021 Summer Seminars and Institutes areÌý1- to 4-week virtual programs that support collegial study of significant topics in the humanitiesÌýand make use of important scholarship and primary resources such as archival documents, artifacts, or historic sites.

Typically, participantsÌýdevelop a scholarly and/or pedagogical projectÌýbased on the topic. Programs take place throughout the United States, andÌýparticipant stipendsÌýhelp cover travel and living expenses.

NEH Summer Seminars and Institutes

  • focus on the study and teaching of significant texts and other resources;
  • provide models of excellent scholarship and teaching;
  • contribute to the intellectual growth of the participants; and
  • build lasting communities of inquiry.

This year’s programs include newÌýperspectives onÌýÌýandÌýtheÌýglobal patterns of empire and decolonization through the lens ofÌý. If you’re interested in literature, dive deeper into the works ofÌýÌýor explore the history, politics, and legacy of theÌý.
