Biography

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory: 2023- 2025
PhD, Microbial Biology, Rutgers University: 2018- 2023
B.Tech, Biotechnology, VIT University, India: 2014- 2018

I am an environmental microbiologist whose research centers on soil microbial ecology, with particular emphasis on microbial interactions, antibiotic resistance, and the role of extracellular DNA (eDNA) in monitoring biodiversity. My work is grounded in the One Health framework, recognizing that soil microbiomes are deeply interconnected with the health of plants, animals, humans, and the broader environment. My research addresses critical gaps in understanding how soil microbial communities regulate pathogen resistance, influence carbon cycling, and contribute to the ecological functions of eDNA.

If you have any questions or are interested in learning more about my research, feel free to send me an email at deshpandea@montclair.edu or stop by my office in REID-132 during my office hours
