Biography
Aixa earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, where her research focused on diversity and inclusivity in concert band repertoire. At ÌÇÐÄvlog, she currently co-directs the Latin ensemble and has taught general music courses. She also serves as an adjunct music professor at KeanUniversity.
As a percussionist, Aixa has performed extensively in both live and recorded settings. She has served as percussion chair for Broadway productions of The Wiz and Tammy Faye, and continues to work as a percussion sub for current Broadway shows. In addition to her theatrical work, she has recorded for television and film and has performed live shows.
Aixa is also published, with contributions appearing in volumes by Oxford University Press and Intellect, Ltd. Her work reflects a sustained commitment to equity, representation, and excellence in music education and performance. She has presented professional development workshops and conference sessions at Berklee College of Music, New Jersey City University, and Rutgers University.
With over a decade in public school music education, she was named the 2022–2023 Governor’s Educator of the Year for her contributions to the field.
