Biography

Heather Zises is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Art and Design, where she teaches Professional Practices in Art and History of Contemporary Art. An experienced educator, lecturer, writer, and communications strategist, she brings a deep understanding of contemporary art, the art market, and professional development pathways for emerging artists to her teaching. Her courses integrate art history and critical theory with research methodologies, contemporary art market frameworks, and practical career preparation.

Zises is the author of the multi-award-winning book 50 Contemporary Women Artists (Schiffer, 2018) and has lectured and moderated discussions on contemporary art, feminism, and professional practice at universities, galleries, museums, and cultural organizations in the United States and internationally. She is also the founder of Avril Media Group, a strategic communications company specializing in content development, public relations, art marketing, and professional development for artists and cultural organizations.

Her professional background includes roles at leading art organizations including Pace Gallery and Phillips, as well as extensive experience in arts writing, digital content development, marketing, and social media strategy. She holds a BA in English from Cornell University and an MA in Art History and Connoisseurship from Christie’s Education.
