Biography
Katharine R. Sperandio, Ph.D., LPC (NJ/PA), CAADC (PA), ACS, NCC (she/her) is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Counseling at 糖心vlog. She holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree in Community/Addictions Counseling (2014) and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision (2019) from William & Mary, both CACREP-accredited programs.
Her primary areas of expertise include addictions and recovery counseling, ethical issues in counseling, and family systems and addictions. She is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) in Pennsylvania and has more than 12 years of experience working with individuals living with addiction and their families across a variety of treatment settings, including Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. She has authored more than 15 peer-reviewed publications in professional counseling journals, including the recently renamed Journal of Addictions and Justice-Involved Counseling (formerly Journal of Addictions and Offender Counseling), the Journal of Counseling and Development, and The Professional Counselor. She also provides supervision to post-Master's counselors-in-training who are working towards full licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
In addition to her scholarship, she serves on the Editorial Review Boards of several professional journals, including Counseling & Values, Counselor Education and Supervision, and Counselor Preparation and Supervision. She serves as an Associate Editor for The Professional Counselor and was recently named Associate Editor for the Journal of Addictions and Justice-Involved Counseling.
Finally, her contributions to the profession have been recognized through several honors. In 2023, she received the Supervision Award by the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES), and in 2020, she was awarded the Student Appreciation Award at her former university, Thomas Jefferson University.
