Biography

Shannon Bellum, Department Administrator for Family Science and Human Development (FSHD), keeps the department running behind the scenes while staying closely connected to students. She oversees enrollment management — course planning and scheduling, curriculum processes — along with the department's administrative systems and the development and implementation of departmental policies and standard practices.

Beyond administration, Shannon serves as the undergraduate advisor for FSHD majors, minors, and students exploring the program. Whether you're mapping out your degree plan or just curious about what FSHD has to offer, she's a great resource.

Shannon's academic path has taken a few turns — a BS in Fashion Studies, an MA in Counseling, and an MFA in Studio Art — and she's brought all of it with her into FSHD, where she's taught since 2004. She currently teaches Women in Contemporary Society, Interpersonal Communications, and Family in Society, and previously taught Pop cultural influences, and studio arts and fashion courses for the College of the Arts (CART), including Sculpture, Metalwork & Jewelry, History of Jewelry, and fashion studies courses. Her path to FSHD wasn't a straight line — but her innovative and creative spirit along with a knack for advisement and enrollment work turned out to translate across programs.

Shannon has also been a dedicated voice in university governance. Elected to the University Senate in 2016, she has served continuously since, becoming Administrative Council Chair in 2018 and now serving her second term as University Senate President (2026–2028).
