Sudha M. Wadhwani, PsyD

Education:

Dr. Wadhwani holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Rutgers University (1991) and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from The Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP), Rutgers University (2000).

Relevant Experience:

Dr. Wadhwani is a NJ Licensed Psychologist who joined the CAPS team in 2006, after serving as Multicultural Outreach Coordinator at Mount Holyoke College Counseling Center for 6 years prior. She has served as a founding Steering Committee member of the National Association for University and College Counseling Center Outreach (AUCCCO), and Co-Chair of the Diversity Committee of the NJ Psychological Association, in addition to leadership positions in other state and regional associations. Dr. Wadhwani has received numerous awards for her collaborations and commitment to diversity and inclusion, outreach, developing programs to increase access to support, and building opportunities for connection and belonging on campus. She founded Montclair’s Let’s Talk program, the CAPS Mental Health Ambassador program, Sister to Sister, Connecting Across Cultures group, and has spearheaded the Bridging the Gap cross-cultural dialogue initiative on campus (through Interfaith America). She currently serves as co-chair of the AUCCCO Diversity Committee, and advisor to the South Asian Mental Health Initiative and Network (SAMHIN). She is also on the board of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, where she previously served as Vice-President.

Dr. Wadhwani completed an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst – University Health Services Mental Health Unit and obtained post-doctoral training at Cambridge Health Alliance Asian Mental Health Clinic, Harvard Medical School. Her research focused on the needs and help-seeking behavior of South Asian college students, a topic on which she has written a book chapter, as well as other publications and presentations. She also has experience in non-profit agencies, diversity consulting, and has a private practice in the area. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Counseling, College for Community Health (CCHL), at ÌÇÐÄvlog.

Multicultural counseling; Inclusion, connection and belonging; immigration/acculturation issues; transgenerational trauma; grief/loss; anxiety disorders; creating systems level interventions and collaborations.
