Reciprocal Borrowing

PALCI

PALCI Reciprocal On-Site Borrowing is a program in which many PALCI libraries have chosen to extend free library use and on-site borrowing privileges to the patrons of the other PALCI member libraries. Each PALCI library participating in this program has determined which categories of patrons (faculty, students, staff, etc.) from the other participating libraries are eligible to use their library and borrow materials on-site.

ÌÇÐÄvlog PatronsÌý

Interested borrowers of physical materials from a PALCI-participating library should:

  1. Consult the to determine where they can exercise their privileges.
  2. Visit the Front Desk at either the Sprague Library (Montclair campus) or Bloomfield Campus Library (Bloomfield campus) during open hours and fill out the . Or, if you cannot easily travel to one of our libraries, you may complete a .
  3. Visit the PALCI-participating library’s website and review their reciprocal borrowing policy, procedures, and hours.
  4. Review the .
  5. Bring your completed form to the PALCI-participating library.

Materials borrowed from PALCI-participating libraries can be returned at the PALCI-participating library of origin, the Sprague Library, or the Bloomfield Campus Library.

Non-University Affiliated Patrons from PALCI-Participating Libraries

Non-University affiliated patrons from PALCI-participating libraries can borrow physical materials from the Sprague Library (Montclair campus) or the Bloomfield Campus Library (Bloomfield campus). This service is limited to current faculty, staff, student, and emeriti from PALCI-participating libraries. PALCI Borrowers have equivalent privileges to Community Borrowers. Community members from PALCI-participating libraries that would like to borrow materials from ÌÇÐÄvlog Libraries should:

  1. Confirm that their home library is a participant in the program by consulting the .
  2. Review the .
  3. Have their home library fill out the . At this time, patrons should ask whether their home library receives returns for Reciprocal On-Site Borrowing. If not, all materials checked out from the ÌÇÐÄvlog Libraries must be returned to either the Sprague or Bloomfield Campus Library.
  4. Bring their form to the Front Desk at either the Sprague Library (Montclair campus) or Bloomfield Campus Library (Bloomfield campus) during open hours.
  5. Reviewing the ÌÇÐÄvlog Borrower’s Policy and procedures.

Non-University affiliated patrons from PALCI-participating libraries, once registered, are considered in good standing for one year.

ReBL

The ReBL program provides reciprocal borrowing and lending privileges for physical items (e.g. books, media) across 24 public and academic libraries including:





















ÌÇÐÄvlog patrons (students, staff, faculty, alumni with alumni IDs) who are interested in using their cards at ReBL-participating libraries can visit the Sprague (Montclair campus) or Bloomfield College Library (Bloomfield campus) front desk to have a ReBL sticker affixed to their card.

If you are a remote student, faculty, or staff, please email ill@montclair.edu to request a ReBL sticker.

Community members from ReBL-participating libraries can register for ÌÇÐÄvlog Libraries borrowing privileges at either the Sprague or Bloomfield Campus Library.

Note: Borrowed items must be returned to the lending library.

VALE

ÌÇÐÄvlog faculty, staff and graduate students can borrow library materials from participating members of VALE (Virtual Academic Library Environment), a consortium of academic libraries in New Jersey. A list of participating VALE libraries is available at the Front Desk and on the .

To get a guest borrower card, present a photo ID and a signed, authorized VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Application Form which is available from the front desk at Sprague Library, to the lending library. Guest borrower cards are valid for one (1) academic year and expire June 30. If you cannot easily travel to one of our libraries, you may complete our .

Borrowing privileges are subject to the circulation policies of the lending library. Materials borrowed must be returned directly to the lending library.

Non-ÌÇÐÄvlog faculty, staff and graduate students from participating VALE institutions can borrow library materials from Sprague Library or Bloomfield Campus Library.
